Kindergarten News

  • Kindergarten families,

We are off to a pretty good start to the school year despite having to wear masks, social distance, wash/sanitize hands, etc.  The kids are growing used to all of these matters and are doing well with it.

Here are a few things to remember as colder weather moves in (and it will!). 🤓

**Our class is now checking out books from the media center!  Our day to check out new books is every Wednesday.  Please have your child return their book in order to get a new one each week.

**When winter weather arrives --- please dress your child each day for the cold weather.  They will be outside unless it is raining or below 0 degrees.  Snowpants and winter boots must be worn when we play outside for recess (when there's snow).
**Please make sure your child has school shoes or gym shoes to change into while at school.  Clunking around in snow boots is not safe and also makes a mess in the classroom.
**Label your child's winter gear with names or at least initials inside or on the tag.  So many snowpants, boots, mittens, etc. look the same.  It would be very helpful with identifying what belongs to whom!
**PRACTICE ZIPPING COATS INDEPENDENTLY. - kindergartners need to do this on their own as we change into coats/jackets a few times a day.
**Also - encourage your child to put hats, mittens, scarves inside their sleeves.  This will help keep everything together and not make a 'trail' of things behind them on the floor!

When sending snacks to school please do not use a lunch bag/lunch box.  This confuses the kindergartners as they think it's a lunch.  Just place a small snack in their backpack - either in a baggie or by itself.  Please make sure your child is able to open their snack on their own...also no pudding, sauces, or things that need a spoon.

If your child is going home a different way than usual, you MUST write a note or call the office to relay your message to me before your child leaves school. They will be sent home the regular way unless I have your written permission or a phone call stating otherwise. (office=496-5892) Thanks!

There are great links to all kinds of early learning activities online.  Here's how to find them:

    *go to www.shakopee.k12.mn.us
*choose Sun Path Elementary in the drop down menu for schools
*click on Learning Commons (media center)
