• We are excited for 2020 Track & Field Days!

     
    Track and Field Days have students complete in 3 events throughout the day, a running event, a field event as well as a team event.  There is also an additional distance race that students may choose to compete in.   The day finishes with a class tug-o-war tournament followed by an award ceremony.  During the award ceremony, ribbons are awarded to the top 6 place finishers in each event.  The distance event places through 10 spots.  
     
    Events begin at 10am followed by lunch, more events and finishing with an award ceremony.  We hope to see you here cheering on your student!  (Students will be expected to stay with their classroom teacher at all times however, you may eat lunch with your student.)
     
    Monday May 18 - 1st Graders
    Tuesday May 19 - 2nd Graders
    Wednesday May 20 - 3rd Graders
    Thursday May 21 - 4th Graders
    Friday May 22 - 5th Graders 
     
    Running Events:   50 m dash, 100 m dash, 50 m hurdles, 400 m dash, sack race, hippity hop race
     
    Field Events:   High jump, foxtail throw, softball throw, frisbee throw, jump rope, shoe kick, hula hoops, Standing Long Jump.
     
    Team Events:   3 legged race, hippity hop relay, 400yd. relay, 200 yd. sprint relay 
     
    Extra Event: Students also have the option of completing a fourth race and running the 800 m run.  
     
    The events will conclude with a grade level team tug-o-war championship tournament. 
     

    All students are required to sit with their respective class and teacher during their track and field day.  We anticipate that the events will be finished by 2:00.  Please do not ask to take your child home before all events are finished.  Ribbons will be passed out to the students the following schoold day in their classroom. At the conclusion of Track and Field Day, your child may accompany you home if you have made prior arrangements with both the classroom teacher and school office. 

    To promote good sportsmanship, we encourage all spectators, (children and adults), to cheer for everyone competing in track and field events.  There will be areas for spectators to set up chairs for viewing directly behind the respective classes.  For safety we ask that all students stay with their teachers.

    Medical Concerns

     If your child has any medical concerns that the School should be aware of please contact your family Physician before they participate in our Track and Field Day events.  After you have consulted your Physician please report all conditions to Nurse Andrea who is located in the Jackson Elementary Office at extension 5804.

     Our Track and Field days will be outside on the playground.  Many days may be hot and sunny.  If you would like your child to wear sunscreen please apply it at home before they come to school, and send extra sunscreen with them so they may re-apply it during the day.  The school does not supply sunscreen for the students.

                Class vs Class  "Tug Of War" 
                 This will be a single elimination event.  Team Trophy will be awarded to the 1st place                  class.  This will be kept in their classroom for the year.
     

     

     

    Parent Information

     

     

     

     

     

         Each student will participate in at least 3 events.  If a field day is cancelled due to inclement weather, the following week has been scheduled as a “makeup week.  Physical Education Teachers, Classroom Teachers, and Principal will determine the best day the following week to have a make up day.

     

    We ask that you please dress your child appropriately.  Shorts and t- shirts are recommended for a warm day, and sweat pants and sweatshirts for a cool day.  More importantly, make sure your child wears tennis shoes on track and field day. We also suggest sunscreen and a container of water for your son/daughter (Please, no glass containers).  A lunch break has been scheduled at your childs normal lunch time.  Your child will need to either bring a bag lunch or get lunch from the school cafeteria.

    Awards

     

     

     

                Ribbons will be awarded to students who place in the top six places in each event.  In the “880 Yard Run” students will be awarded ribbons up to Tenth (10th) place.

     

              If the students participate in the relay events, each student will be awarded their own individual ribbon for the place that their team achieved in the event.

     

     

     

     

     

    Lunch Break

     

     

     

     

     

     

    We will have a lunch break during the grade levels normal lunch time.  Students may bring a bag lunch, or order from the cafeteria.  If parents and guests will be joining their student for lunch, they MUST bring a lunch with them as the cafeteria will not be able to serve lunch to guests during track and field days. Classes will either eat lunch outside or in their clusters. 

     

    Students must stay with their classroom Teacher at all times.
