Planners: Planners will come home every day for our home-school communication. The planner will inform you on important dates/events, assignments that are due, and what we have learned in class. Please take time at home to read what your child has written and sign at the bottom of that day, so I can ensure your child is informing you.
* Read 20 minutes each night.
Monthly Reading Calendar: At the beginning of each month I will send home a reading calendar. Please fill out how many minutes your child reads each day. The calendar will be due back to school on the 1st of the next month with a parent signature.
Book Orders: I will be sending home book orders at the beginning of each month. Please check the due date on the sheet. This is a great way to purchase inexpensive books and to get your child excited about reading! I will also provide the opportunity for families to order books online for those who prefer that.
Class newsletter: I will print and send home our monthly newsletters with important information about what we are learning in school and upcoming dates.
Class Website: Please check out our class website! To access it, go to https://www.shakopee.k12.mn.us and look for the heading "Schools". Choose "Eagle Creek Elementary", then look for the heading "Teacher Websites". Select "Second Grade" and "Ms. Hennen". On the website, you will find our daily schedule, calendar, links, and other important information. I will try to keep this updated as frequently as possible!
Star of the Week: This year, we will recognize what is extraordinary about each member of our class through our "Star of the Week" program. Please look at the "Star of the Week" schedule on my website.
Volunteering: Please let me know if you would like to help our in the classroom or from home this year. Many opportunites are available and you are greatly appreciated! Remember to also submit a district background check form, as that is required for all volunteers at Eagle Creek.
Water bottles: Your child is welcome to have a water bottle at his/her desk each day, as long as it doesn't interfere with learning. No juice or other beverage is allowed in the classroom unless it is a special occasion. Water bottles must be brought home at the end of each week to be cleaned out.
Snack: Your child is welcome to bring a healthy snack to school each day. Please do not send any candy or chips in for snack. Some great ideas are: fruit, vegetables, string cheese, yogurt, or crackers. I will not provide a snack for students who forget theirs. Students may not share snacks, due to allergies.
Birthdays: You are more than welcome to bring in a store bought treat for your child to share. Please make sure there are no peanuts in the product due to allergies. Currently, there are 22 students in our classroom.
Lunches: There are two lunch options for school lunch: hot lunch and Saber Meal (cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwhich, fruit, veggies, etc.). Your child may also bring a lunch from home.
Report cards and conferences: Look for future dates and times.
I'm looking forward to a great year! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
