The team at Shakopee High School is excited to be the home to the Academies of Shakopee, one of only two such models in the state. The dedicated staff, including counselors, teachers, Academy Principals, and administrators, are all here to support each and every student, every step of the way.

The core plan is to ensure college and career readiness regardless of the Academy or courses a student chooses. Students are encouraged to explore various interests while also defining their educational pathway.

A hallmark of the Academies of Shakopee is its strong network of community partnerships. With over 80 businesses and organizations like Valleyfair, Greystone Construction, Entrust, Hometown Bank, Canterbury Park, Scott County, the City of Shakopee, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, St. Francis Regional Medical Center/TRIA and many more, the greater community actively supports its students. These partnerships provide authentic, real-world learning experiences each school year.

Beyond academics, Shakopee High School is also a proud Special Olympics Unified Champion School, a MSHSL state leader in various sports, and a vibrant hub of activity that serves nearly 3,000 students annually.

What to Expect

Advanced Courses

Shakopee Public Schools offers a variety of advanced courses, in grades 9-12, intended to provide appropriate challenges for students who want a more rigorous curriculum.

The goal of accelerated courses is to provide students the opportunity to engage in above grade-level content and to pursue college-credit courses. Due to the unique nature of each content area, this will lead to different pathways in each area. Students can either select accelerated course options or students are identified for placement based on district defined criteria based on content area

School Office Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm

The school year is divided into four quarters. A successfully completed one-quarter course will earn one credit. Courses concurrently enrolled with a college or university will earn a minimum of one credit for every two college/university semester credits.

College Credit Options

There are a variety of ways students can earn college credit while attending Shakopee Schools. See below for a brief list and view full details in the registration guide.

Concurrent Enrollment (College in the Schools – CIS, Normandale Community College, Hennepin Technical College, St. Cloud State) is a dual enrollment program in which students who successfully complete a course receive transcripted college credit and High School credit. University or college credit is awarded to students who successfully meet the standards of both the High School and college course.
Advanced Placement (AP) is an international program of college-level coursework. Typically, students who earn a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP test may qualify for college credit.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national program that provides students opportunities to gain the science, technology, engineering, and math skills necessary to succeed in a global economy. St. Cloud State University and Rochester Institute of Technology participate in PLTW.
Articulated College Credit (ACC) can be earned in courses that have agreements with Minnesota Technical, Community, or 4-year Colleges and Universities.

NCAA Eligibility

SouthWest Metro Partnership

The Southwest Metro Intermediate District will offer the following courses during the 2045/35 school year. Each course at SWMetro gives you job training which may be used to get a job after graduation or to help you decide what career you should study after High School graduation. The courses also provide for application of skills learned in other High School classes.

Post-Secondary Accreditation: Students may be eligible to receive post-secondary credits for Career and Technical course work they complete at Southwest Metro Intermediate District. Students must have enrolled in one of the following SW Metro career and technical courses and maintain a B or better: Students can receive post-secondary credit at various two- or four-year colleges.

Transportation: Shakopee High School provides transportation to the SW Metro. Students choosing to drive must sign and turn in a permission form at Shakopee High School.

Center for Advanced Professional Studies Program

The Shakopee CAPS Program began in the fall of 2015 with the mission of helping students gain professional skills and explore their possible career interests, all while immersed in the world of work. The CAPS Program is an elective program for juniors and seniors that immerses students into authentic career experiences with the help of local business partners.

Shakopee CAPS requires students to be active, independent learners and fosters empowerment, self-discovery, collaboration and critical thinking skills. Students will engage in a variety of opportunities, including real problem and project-based learning, tours, and job shadowing experiences. Through guided mentoring, students will be immersed in the professional environment through an internship experience that encompasses their personal interests.

Each program consists of students attending class for 2 of 4 blocks of the school day off-site at our partner locations during 1st Semester. Students will also apply and interview in hopes of being selected for a 3rd Quarter Internship in the Shakopee Area.

Within Shakopee High School, you'll find eight specialized career Academies, each designed to ignite student interests. Each student journey begins with exploration in the 9th Grade Academy. From there, students choose an Academy to focus on from sophomore year onwards. Students receive personalized support from teachers, businesses, school counselors and administrators every step of the way, ensuring each and every student graduates life and career pathway ready!

Each Academy offers a dedicated physical space, focused team of teachers, an Academy Principal and Champion and elective courses directly linked to career pathways. The Shakopee Chamber, Shakopee Foundation and local businesses work to provide real-world, authentic learning experiences and career exploration activities. And most importantly, students are connected with others who have similar aspirations and teachers who can make meaningful connections to their future.
