Learn about me:
My name is Joan Keane and I am the Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Shakopee School District. I have been working in the DHH position here since the Spring of 2000! I have my Bachelor's degree in teaching elementary and my Master in Eduction in teaching dhh birth-twenty-one year olds. I work itinerant in all the Shakopee schools depending on where the students/dhh are located in each particular year. I enjoy working with students of every age with etiologies from mild to profound loss with either unilateral or bilateral hearing loss. I work with students who have speech as their primary mode, students who are supported with speech and sign language and students who have ASL (American Sign Language) as their primary mode of communication. For the past 20 years I have taught sign language to interested staff in the district to support this visual language in the classroom setting. It is my pleasure to work with students from the time they enter the distirct until the time they leave whether it be graduation or transition of family.
