How To Vote

An absentee application must be filled out first before a ballot can be provided. The application is below and will be available at any district school and the district office starting September 19th. Please note that the application is below and does update once direct balloting starts on October 17, 2025.

• Applications can be sent back in via mail to the District Office, dropped off in person at the District Office - Election Room only for immediate processing or emailed to levy@shakopee.k12.mn.us . See application for further details.
• Ballots will not be officially processed until 18 days prior (or less) to election day (November 4, 2025) and can only be done when two election judges are present. All security and election processes guided by Scott County and the Secretary of State will be employed to ensure maximum security and adherence to absentee voting protocol.
• Scott County will manage military and UOCAVA absentee ballots directly. 
• The Special Election team will mail any permanent absentee ballots directly starting on September 19, 2025.

The special election will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 from 7:00AM - 8:00PM at West Middle School, 200 10th Ave E, Shakopee in the gymnasium. Extra ballot machines will be made available given the single polling location. All precincts will vote at this location with the exception of any voters that reside within the district and live in Prior Lake - please visit Prior Lake City Hall for voting details. 

There will be parking and directional signage during voting hours, and the health and safety of all community members, students and staff will be of utmost priority.

Additional voting details from the Secretary of State's website are listed below.

• You will vote in a private area, and your vote is secret.
• If you did not register more than 20 days before Election Day, you must show proof of residency. See a list of all the types of ID and documents you can bring.
• Accommodations are made to ensure community members of all abilities can easily and safely vote.
• Special voting pens will be sanitized and provided to ensure the ink dries quick before being tabulated. 
• If you make a mistake, you have a right to ask for a replacement ballot.
• Be sure to get your “I Voted” sticker before you leave!

• In special situations, you may ask an agent to pick up and return an absentee ballot for you. This is called ‘agent delivery.’ Learn more about agent delivery.

To vote you must be:

• A U.S. citizen
• At least 18 years old on Election Day (16 & 17 year olds can pre-register)
• A resident of Minnesota for 20 days
• Not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction
• Not under a court order that revokes your right to vote

Direct balloting (absentee/early voting where a citizen can receive an in-person ballot and insert directly into an election tabulator) is available at the District Office from Friday, October 17 - Monday, November 3, 2025. All precincts can vote at this location with the exception of those who live in Prior Lake who must vote at Prior Lake City Hall (absentee and election day).
