Get to Know the Superintendent

Mike Redmond’s passion for helping each and every student reach their individual greatest potential was ignited when he was asked at the age of eighteen, during his freshman year of college, to be an athletic coach, technology tutor and playground supervisor at the elementary school he attended. This passion continues to burn brighter than ever as Redmond leads Shakopee Public Schools as Superintendent with the genuine mantra that “every kid is my kid."

Redmond started in the role of Superintendent in 2013 in Goodhue, Minnesota. In 2018, he moved from Goodhue to serve as Superintendent in Shakopee, Minnesota, a suburban community located southwest of Minneapolis.

In both Shakopee and Goodhue, Dr. Redmond led successful levy campaigns. The levy outcomes in the role of superintendent are a continuation of previous successes in Redmond’s now 35-year career in education.

As a principal he led the cultural and academic turnaround of a middle school, he was selected Mahtomedi’s Teacher of the Year, and as a high school girls soccer coach was selected five times in a fourteen year career as the Minnesota Coach of the Year, and one time as the National Coach of the Year, while coaching teams in Mahtomedi that won four state championships and were nationally ranked.

Redmond enjoys working with aspiring educators as an adjunct professor for Winona State University (Minnesota) and the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities teaching courses in School Management, School Law, School Tax Election and School Finance. He truly enjoys working in the areas of team and leadership development, student learning initiatives, and executive coaching and levy campaigns.

Mike and his wife Carol reside in Shakopee, and have two sons.
