Destination Imagination Teams Compete at the 2018 Globals Competition
Two Shakopee Community Education Destination Imagination Teams headed to Knoxville, Tennesee in late May for the Globals Final Competition. “Punctacular Phoenixes” and “Flip the Switch Middle Level - Treasure” each qualified by completing challenges and placing in the top at both the regional and state tournaments. The Punctacular Phoenixes, an elementary level team, placed 36 of 57 in the fine arts challenge and Flip the Switch, a middle level team, placed 15th of 52 in the engineering challenge. More than 1400 students from 38 states and 19 countries competed in the globals competition.
“The biggest impact I’ve seen is watching kids grow in their interpersonal skills,” said Jenny Ames, the Destination Imagination Coordinator. “Throughout the season they develop strong communication skills, learn how to work with the strengths of each team member to solve issues, and gain confidence as they see what they are truly capable of doing.”
Destination Imagination is an international organization whose mission is to teach students the creative process and empower them with the skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. This year, Shakopee Community Education had six teams, ranging from preschool through high school. For more information contact Jenny at 952-496-5027.
