School Board Update: Proposed Graduation Requirements

NOVEMBER 14, 2018 - Shakopee High School Principal Jeff Pawlicki and Academy Principal Ed Cox presented a proposed transition to new graduation requirements for board review and discussion at Tuesday's meeting, held November 13, 2018.

Under the proposal, the new graduation requirements would be implemented in the 2019-20 school year. It would be a pure block schedule with four blocks/periods (approximately 85 minute periods) per quarter. Students would have 16 total credits (course options) available to them per year. 

Timeline and Process

  • Drafted preliminary recommendations with District and High School Administration (Summer 2018)
  • Gathered teacher input from High School Leadership and Academy Articulation teams (September/October)
  • Present and gather input from School Board members (School Board Meeting (November 13, 2018)
  • Seek formal approval by School Board at School Board Business Meeting (December 10, 2018)
