MARCH 15, 2019- After receiving the cold shoulder from mother nature the past few weeks, the Shakopee High School Boys Varsity Soccer team provided elementary students with a great way to warm up!
Over the course of one week, the players visited all of the district’s elementary schools to say hello and introduce them to the sport. The players also juggled the soccer ball and showed their skills and tricks while the kids ate lunch. At Eagle Creek, two players ventured outside and played soccer with students at recess.
“We have a leadership council for the soccer program that meets monthly,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jon Poppen. “This group leads a service project once a month. The school visits and an upcoming open house are their project for March. They’ve also done work with Adopt a Highway and Feed My Starving Children. Giving back to our communities is one of our program values and the players (and their families) have really embraced it.”
In conjunction with the Shakopee Soccer Association, the team is hosting an open house for youth called Soccer with the Sabers. The event is March 16 at the Community Center in Rink 1 of the Ice Arena.
