Community to Celebrate SHS Alumni and Hockey Standout Amy Menke
JULY 24, 2019 - On Sunday, the community will come together to celebrate Shakopee alumni and hockey standout Amy Menke.
Menke graduated from Shakopee High School in 2013 with an impressive athletic resume. She played on the Girls Varsity Hockey team from 2008-2013. Menke was also named top 10 Ms. Hockey finalist during her senior year. Menke also made the U18 National team and won Silver at the U18 Worlds in Finland.
After graduation, Menke played four years at the University of North Dakota before she returned home to coach the Shakopee High School Girls Hockey team. It wasn’t long before she received a new opportunity and traveled to Europe to join the Swedish Women's Hockey League. Menke played on the Djurgarden Women’s team the last two months of their season. Most recently, she joined the MN Whitecaps professional hockey team; winner of the National Women’s Hockey League championship.
“Playing on a professional hockey team in Minnesota was a great experience,” said Menke. “It was fun being back on a team playing competitively. Our fan base was awesome and sold out every single home game at TRIA Rink in St. Paul. Winning the Isobel cup at the end of the season was a blast too. Our celebration tour included Twins, Timberwolves, and Saints games, as well as a couple other team get-togethers.”
Shakopee High School, the City of Shakopee and the Shakopee Youth Hockey Association are hosting an Isobel Cub Celebration for Menke on Sunday, July 28. The event, from 1-2:30pm, will be held at the Shakopee Ice Arena.
“It will be a lot of fun to continue and share the celebration with Shakopee,” added Menke.
Sunday’s event will include a free open skate, autographs, pictures with Menke and the championship cup!
