Adopt A Smile Dental Clinic Opens New Location and Options for Families
DECEMBER 18, 2019 -- Adopt A Smile recently hosted a new dental clinic at West Middle School. 40 additional students were served at West Middle School. Adopt A Smile also hosted a small gathering at West Middle School to thank donors and their partners who have given to the program.
Adopt A Smile has partnered with Shakopee Public Schools since 2016 and has hosted eight clinics in our buildings. Until recently, all of them were offered at Shakopee High School. Students are able to get access to free dental care right in their own school building. Each patient receives a cleaning, X-Rays and referrals for additional dental needs. The care is provided by volunteer dental professionals.
“We have repeatedly heard from students and parents about how much they appreciate the dental clinic,” said Peggy Nerdahl. “We are serving students who otherwise wouldn’t receive care. Some have never been to the dentist. Some are living with tooth pain. Some are receiving preventative care like sealants and learning the proper way to care for their teeth. We are so thankful for Adopt A Smile and their partnership with our school district. Healthy students are better learners!”
In the next couple months, students and families in need will have more options for dental care. The “Lil Flossie” dental van will soon be at Shakopee High School and West Middle School. More information on dates and times will be shared once finalized.
