2021 National Merit Semifinalists and Commended Students
Three Shakopee High School seniors have joined an elite group of students around the nation designated as 2021 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.
More than 1.5 million students entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. They were required to take the 2019 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test, which served as an initial screening of program entrants.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) named approximately 16,000 semifinalists, including three Shakopee High School students: Ian Smith, Tharun Inturi and Simran Rana.
In addition, 7 Shakopee High School students have been named National Merit Commended Students: Saloni Baral, John Nesnidal, Rachel Oelkers, Raj Panda, Zachary Susee, Lily Tran and Marie Witt. Students recognized in this category can become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
The semifinalists will go on to compete to become a finalist and for a chance at the National Merit Scholarship.
“We could not be more proud of these students at Shakopee High School,” said Jeff Pawlicki, Shakopee High School principal. “Each and every one of them have accomplished much in their time at the high school and we cannot wait to see what their future holds.”
