Shakopee Community Ed & Mi CASA Receive Statewide Project Award

Shakopee, MN – Mi CASA Summer Camp has been recognized with a prestigious award for its exceptional contribution to community education. The program, a partnership between Shakopee Community Education and Mi CASA, was lauded for its creativity, impact and commitment to enriching the lives of young people.

The 5-week summer camp, offered to students from Pre-K to 11th Grade, provides a wide range of activities, including art, games, physical activities and guest speaker presentations. Transportation is also provided, making the program accessible to all participants.

“This past summer, we witnessed firsthand the positive impact of the camp,” said Lisa Rahn, Director of Shakopee Community Education. "Younger students formed new friendships, developed artistic skills, and gained basic reading concepts. It was heartwarming to see them transform from timid to joyful, eager to return each day.”

Older students, meanwhile, engaged in interactive activities like egg drops and catapult building, while also learning about important topics such as mental health, online safety and drug prevention.

The camp’s counselors, many of whom were former participants, play a crucial role in creating a positive and supportive environment.

The success of Mi CASA Summer Camp is attributed to the generous support of various organizations, including St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Shakopee Public Schools, Shakopee Rotary Club, Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Minnesota Valley Electric Trust.
