Shakopee Public Schools Unofficial Election Results Released

For Immediate Release - November 6, 2024

Local voters approved the renewal of Shakopee Public Schools existing Capital Projects Levy, also known as a ‘Safety & Technology Levy’, that was on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot.  The renewal received 62.43% (14,951) yes votes and 37.57% (8,999) no votes according to unofficial results published after closing activities by Scott County and the City of Shakopee Election Officials early this morning.

“As a district, we are extremely grateful that we can continue to keep each and every member of our student and school community safe, and thriving to the best of our ability,” states Kristi Peterson, School Board Vice Chair. “Through the renewal of our existing Safety & Technology Levy, the district will be able to continue to provide strong safety and security for all schools, critical support that allows staff to provide quality instruction and tools students use for learning today, and leading tomorrow.”
 

Shakopee Public Schools’ current Safety & Technology Levy was originally approved by voters in 2015 for ten years.  With the approval of the same levy, terms and tax rate, funding for the Safety & Technology Levy renewal would start in the 2026-27 school year and be valid for ten (10) years. 

Additionally, three (3) school board members were voted in for terms of four (4) years each in the November 5th General Election.

The candidates that were approved by voters are Jeffrey Smith (incumbent, current Shakopee School Board Chair), Tim Brophy (incumbent, current Shakopee School Board Clerk) and Nick Zitek.

 
“We have an extremely dedicated and service-oriented School Board that is committed to doing the right things– ensuring success for each and every student in our district,” states Superintendent Mike Redmond. “Mohamed Ibrahim, whose term will end on January 6, 2025, has been an integral part of our community and an honest, welcomed voice on the School Board since he was elected in November 2020. We look forward to having the depth of knowledge and experience that Jeff and Tim will continue to bring, along with the fresh perspective and insights that Nick will add to the Board.”

Election results are unofficial until certified by the School Board at 6:00 p.m. on November 13, 2024 at the District Office - Board Room.
