Shakopee Public Schools will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program.  Lunch will be provided to all children (ages 0-18) in the community at NO CHARGE Monday - Friday, June 8, 2026 - August 21, 2026* from 10:30AM - 12:30PM at Pearson Early Learning Center.

Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability and there will be no discrimination during the meal service. 

All meals must be eaten on site at Pearson Early Learning Center. Registration is not required.

Free Meals for Kids is a free moblie app that helps families and kids locate free healthy meals  across Minnesota. The App is powered by GPS and shows locations of schools and community sites providing meals, with days and hours of operation. It also shows the distance and directions to the nearest site from your location.

SUN Bucks is a federally funded program that provides families with school-aged children who qualify for free or reduced eligibility with one-time $120 payment to purchase healthy foods while school is not in session.

Qualifications are determined, and the benefits are distributed by the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Students must meet the following requirements to qualify for SUN Bucks EBT:

If you are participating in a state program listed, you will automatically qualify for Summer Bucks benefits.

We will automatically sign up your eligible children for the Sun Bucks EBT program. Your new Sun Bucks EBT card will be mailed to each qualified student at your primary household listed in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please check your Parent Infinite Campus portal to be sure your contact information is accurate.

Participating state programs:

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
• Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
• Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
• Foster care
• Medicaid
• Students identified as homeless, migrant, or runaway

If you have already applied for free & reduced-price meal benefits, and you have received your approval letter, you will automatically qualify for Sun Bucks EBT benefits. No further action required.

We will automatically sign you up for the Sun Bucks EBT program. New Sun Bucks EBT card will be mailed to each qualified student at your primary household listed in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please check your Parent Infinite Campus portal to be sure your contact information is accurate.

If you are not participating in a state program and have not yet applied for free & reduced-price meal benefits, but think you may qualify, please apply as soon as possible.

Please apply online through your Infinite Campus portal or complete a paper application. Applications accepted until August 31, 2026. Please reach out to Carol at ctschaek@shakopee.k12.mn.us. If you qualify, we will automatically sign you up for the Sun Bucks EBT benefits.

*Free or reduced eligibility is not determined by whether your student receives free meals at school. A student must either be directly certified for free or reduced eligibility or must qualify for free or reduced eligibility based on a submitted Application for Educational Benefits to Shakopee Public Schools Food & Nutrition Services Department.

For students who already qualify for free or reduced eligibility:

• Ensure that household contact information is up-to-date in Infinite Campus, including parent or guardian name, address and phone number.  
• A new S-EBT card will be mailed to your household 

At this time, it is estimated to take 4-6 weeks from the mail date for families to receive their cards. However, please note that the State has not confirmed a final mail date. If you have already applied and have not received your card by June 30, please contact Carol at ctschaek@shakopee.k12.mn.us.

If you would like to donate to the Angel Fund to help students with negative food service balances, you can do so in Infinite Campus. Click here for helpful details.  If you would like to transfer a positive food service meal balance to the Angel Fund, please contact food services at 952.496.5141.

If you are having problems making meal payments for your child or if you feel your student's account has been misused, please call our office for assistance. 

Visitors Eating Lunch at School

If you plan to join your child for lunch, please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your child's assigned lunch time. Standard visitor safety procedures apply. A school lunch may be purchased by a visiting adult; availability varies as student lunches take precedent.  The cost of the lunch is $5.30* for visitors.

Food Delivery

Frequent food delivery by a family member for student consumption is not encouraged. Food delivery (i.e. delivery orders) for students is prohibited during school hours.

Please note, Shakopee High School has a closed campus and therefore, students will not be excused to leave the building during their lunch period. 

Depending on classroom schedules, students may be asked to bring in snacks from home. Snacks are usually eaten during a 10-15 minute break or less-active class time. Research indicates that a healthy, high-protein snack can enhance a student's ability to learn. The school district encourages families to pack healthy lunches and snacks and refrain from including beverages and foods without nutritional value. Healthy snacks are defined as fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, etc. Items with high sugar or salt content are discouraged. Snack options may be limited in the case of student allergies.

• Popcorn
• Cheese & crackers
• Fruits
• Vegetables
• Muffins
• Granola bars
• Beef jerky
• Pretzels
• Raisins

It is the expectation that all students have the responsibility for cleaning their eating area and leaving the dining/lunch room presentable for other students. 

All students are expected to adhere to the below expectations:

• No cutting or budging lunch lines.
  • Please wait in the line for the person in front to finish.
• Cooperate with food services and custodian staff.
• Remain in the lunchroom/commons area during the entire lunch period.
• Clean up the immediate area before departing.
• Deposit their trash in the proper trash and recycling containers.
• Do not throw food/beverages/utensils/objects.
• Do not take food outside of the lunchroom/commons area. 

Important Note: While school meals (breakfast and lunch) are free for the 2026-27 school year, educational meal benefit forms are still necessary and impact family options as well as school funding.

Forms must be completed EVERY year and do NOT carry over year-to-year.

Hard Copy Applications

• Mail or physically drop off to the district office: Attn: Food Services, 1200 Shakopee Town Square, Shakopee, MN 55372
• An after-hours drop off bin is available in the entry area.
• Additional options: Email a scanned copy to Carol in Food Services (see below), bring to your student's back to school night or front office.
