2026-2027 K-12 School Calendar

Pre-Labor Day Start: The 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years are unique because Labor Day falls later on the calendar than it typically does. Due to these later Labor Day dates, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) granted school districts special permission to begin the school year before Labor Day in each of these two years.

If Shakopee Public Schools did not begin classes for the 2026-27 school year before Labor Day, the school calendar would extend an additional week into June.

In developing the calendar, district leadership, the Shakopee Education Association (SEA), union representatives and the School Board worked together to address a variety of considerations, including family plans and events traditionally scheduled for the last weekend in August and first weekend in September. The approved calendar provides a long weekend prior to Labor Day—similar to a traditional Labor Day weekend—while also preserving the regular Labor Day holiday weekend.
