• Responsibilities, Rules & Expectations

Throughout the year, we, as a class, will learn about how to make choices that best support our learning.  One way I support this positive behavior and help keep parents aware of how their child(ren) are doing in class is through the use of SeeSaw.

Each year I engage students in writing our own class rules.  They will be based on the main school rules of Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.  Along with these rules, we will discuss logical consequences for if and when various rules are broken.  I have had good success with what I call the 3 strikes system with regards to blurting and interrupting.  For the first incident, the student will receive a kind reminder to raise their hand/stop the side conversation.  On the second offense (during that lesson/activity) the child will be asked to "take a break" where they sit at desk separate/away from the main group.  At this desk, they are still able to observe and take-in the lesson and/or complete their work but they are to literally take a break away from whatever is distracting them.  Once the student feels ready to return to the group and behave appropriately he/she may do so.  If the behavior occurs a third time, the child will have to fill out a Fix-It form that they will take home at the end of the day, discuss with their parent/guardian, write up a fix-it plan, and bring back the following school day with a parent/guardian signature.  Severe/dangerous behavior will likely involve contact with Mrs. Koivisto (our principal) and/or a phone call(s) home.

Thank you for your support in creating a respectful, responsible, responsible and safe classroom and school environment!
