    GOAL:  $2,200

    Hey Parents!

It’s time to empty that coin jar, clean out those couch cushions and check your pockets for Pennies for Patients! Students are making   change to beat cancer in this 22nd annual community service and cancer education program.

Jackson will be collecting spare change and other donations to support Pennies for Patients, a cancer education program and fundraiser benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We will be raising money in honor of student Heroes from MN, ND and SD who are survivors of leukemia or lymphoma.

Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and young adults less than 20 years old. An estimated 1,012,533 Americans are living with a blood cancer, and every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed. Since 1992, over $8.5 million has been raised locally by thousands of pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school and college students. For information regarding local programs and services of the Minnesota Chapter serving MN, ND & SD, call (888) 220-4440 or visit www.LLS.org/mn.

Jackson’s Pennies for Patients Coin Drive will run from December 1st-12th. Students are encouraged to bring in coins or dollar bills for their classroom. The top 3 raising classrooms will be recognized with prizes. The top raising classroom will win a pizza party for the class!

Coins will be measured by weight. One pound of pennies (181) = $1.81. One pound of nickels (90)= $4.50. One pound of dimes (200) = $20.00 and one pound of quarters (80)= $19.75. Cash may also be sent and given to classroom teacher until coin pickup time. One pound will be awarded for each dollar ($5.00 bill = 5 pounds, etc). Our school goals is to raise $2,200.

    Other fundraising activities:

    • Hat passes for students- $1.00 per hat (Teachers have discretion to ask students remove hats if they are a nuisance.)
    • Tape Mr. Orchard to a pillar at lunch- $2.00 per strip of duct tape. Buy your tape strip and help tape Mr. Orchard to a pillar over the lunch hours. This will take place during the 2nd week – (date TBD)
    • Pie a teacher- students may put coins/dollars into a bucket of a teacher. The teacher with the most money at the end of week 2 will get a whipped cream pie in the face at our next all school assembly on January 30th. The student chosen to do this will be drawn from the highest raising classroom. This contest runs December 8-12.
