Physical Education Department

  • The mission of the Elementary School Physical Education Program is to provide successful physical experiences for all children. Activities in the program are selected from a wide variety of offerings for children in grades one through five. Through participation in the physical education curriculum, students should have the opportunity to develop knowledge and practices necessary in obtaining personal physical fitness and lifetime wellness values. They should also acquire appropriate physical skills to participate in a wide range of physical activities and specialized sports skills. Social interaction occurs in physical education classes and participation should foster personal values.

Students will have Physical Education class 4 times in a 10 day cycle. Classes are 50 minutes.

Students are required to have safe, clean tennis shoes. If you have any clean tennis shoes that are too small we would be happy to take them. This way students who forget proper shoes can borrow a pair so they can participate.

Philosophy

  • Jackson Elementary Physical Education department believes that each child needs directed physical education taught by a certified Physical Education Specialist.

Physical Education, to be meaningful in the lives of boys and girls, should represent a planned development sequence of experience beginning with first grade and extending through grade five. These Physical experiences should be part of the total educational process of the child, no less or more important than any other academic subject. Students should experience fun and enjoyment while gaining knowledge and skills which will result in future choices of lifelong physical activities. They will also gain knowledge and experience which will help them meet life challenges and develop an appreciation and respect for individual differences.

The program provides opportunities for the development of healthy, happy, well adjusted and integrated personalities.
