Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)
ECFE is a program for parents and their children from birth thru age four. Our mission is to provide quality learning opportunities and resources for all families in our district. Contrary to the belief that raising children comes naturally, there is growing recognition that being a parent is extremely demanding and difficult work. ECFE recognizes that parents are children’s first and most significant teachers. It is our mission to strengthen families and enhance the ability of parents to provide the best environment for the healthy growth and development of their children. Please join us and other parents in supporting our district’s youngest learners in preparing them for school success.
Weekly classes: Shakopee Schools ECFE offers classes during the day, evenings and Saturday mornings. Traditional ECFE classes are for parents with children birth thru age four. All classes include a parent/child interaction time, and a parenting session.
For Parents Only: ECFE offers special class opportunities because we recognize the diversity of needs and concerns parents may have. Parent only classes are topic related and do not include a parent/child interaction time. Children are welcome to attend in our sibling care room for most parent only classes.
Family Literacy: The Family Literacy program is collaboration between Shakopee Schools, ECFE and Adult Basic Education. Parents who are learning English as a second language, finishing their high school degree or working on improving their work skills may attend adult classes while their children participate in an Early Childhood program. Parents also participate weekly in parenting classes.
Special Events: These special events include: fieldtrips, special speakers, and community events such as Family Fun Nights, child enrichment classes, home visits, Kids Stuff Sale and Baby fair and Shower.
