Early Childhood Screening Introduction
It is a state mandate that parents who would like to enroll their child in kindergarten must have their child complete the Early Childhood Screening unless parents have provided written documentation that they are conscientious objectors to screening. Families are encouraged to have their child screened between the ages of 3 and 4.Screening determines if a child’s development is on track and provides families with information on community and learning resources for children. Trained professionals evaluate a child’s development in language, motor and problem solving skills. Information is gathered about a child’s social and emotional development as well as health history. The child’s vision and hearing are also checked.Early Childhood Screenings typically take place on Wednesday afternoons and early evening from 12:15 pm - 6:15 pm and on Thursdays during school hours from 8:30 am -3:30 pm. Appointments last approximately an hour in length. All in-person screenings take place at Pearson Early Learning Center, 917 Dakota St South, Shakopee. In the event we cannot offer in-person screenings, we will be conducting the screenings virtually, via goggle meet or phone, instead.Starting December ALL screening appointments will be virtual. When signing up for an appointment, please allow enough time to collect the packet of forms and questionnaires so they can be filled out and returned to our building prior to the screening. Once you select an appointment, I will be contacting you for further information. Thank you for your flexibility with this new screening format.
If a need is shown in one or more areas, referrals to community resources for further evaluation are made. These evaluation screening appointments will be available throughout the year.
Please sign up online using the Online Scheduler or email Elaine Berens at email@example.com (preferred) or call 952.496.5861 for an appointment. Interpreters provided, free of charge, for families with home languages other than English.
