I’m Bruno Pareja Lozano and I’m in the Healthcare and Medicine strand offered by CAPS. I'm also an intern at All Saints. I shadow nurses and get a lot of patient care experience. It’s truly a great opportunity and I am grateful to have CAPS in my high school experience. I took Human Anatomy my junior year and I felt like CAPS was the “next step” to use what I learned and more. CAPS has really helped me learn about so many health careers offered in the field. CAPS has also helped me become a better professional.
I think that the Healthcare and Medicine strand is a great opportunity to get a feel for the future. This class helped me realize my future medical interest. CAPS has also given me a future job in a medical setting that I couldn’t possibly think of working, especially as a high school student. This class has made me realize that you don’t need to be a doctor or a nurse to be a health care provider. I think that anyone who has the availability to take CAPS should really do it, because it’s more than just a class. You get to meet important people in your field of interest. You get to work along big organizations with projects that they use for their business. You also get to use and expand your professional skills at a higher level. I would recommend CAPS not only as a “next step” class but as a better future in the work force.

I chose CAPS because I thought it would be a great jump from learning in the classroom to learning in the hospital and the internship was appealing. First and second semester of CAPS were two totally different experiences. During first semester I was able to portray myself as a professional student and how to put myself out into the real world. Along with that I experienced deadlines and working with other professionals through my projects which in turn helped prep me for my internship. Second semester I was able to take away the experience of what my future could look like.
I would recommend this class to students who have already taken the nursing assistant course at the high school because if you are like me who chose CAPS over the nursing class. Benefits of this class are that the teaching is not like a normal classroom setting. You have a very limited amount of lectures and most of your learning is through hands on work. Also, this class looks great on a transcript and a resume plus the internship is a great asset.
