30 students from Shakopee participated in the annual Minnesota DECA State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis, MN, March 3-5, 2019. During the school year, approximately 3,500 Minnesota DECA student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete in over 50 events focused in the areas of entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality, marketing and other related fields. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development.
After qualifying earlier this year, district winners put their talents to the test during the State Career Development Conference. Students receiving state recognition include:

■ Visara Sok – Employment Interview - Entry Level – 2nd
This April, Dan, Jacqueline, Himani and Akshay, will travel to Orlando, FL to compete with 20,000 top students from around the world at the International Career Development Conference – the pinnacle of DECA competition. Congrats and Good Luck!
Six Shakopee Business and Entrepreneurship students were invited to attend the 2nd Annual High School Innovation and Entrepreneurship Day held at the University of St Thomas on December 16th. In the morning, students participated in a Design Thinking Bootcamp led by professors in the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship. After a campus tour, the students attended the final presentations in the Fowler Business Challenge. The Fowler Business Challenge was founded by Ron Fowler, a St Thomas alum and owner of the San Diego Padres, and the winning business plans earn scholarship money.
