What was the threshold used to determine if the online programming should run?
There is not a specific number, but rather three considerations:
- Class sizes
- Quality of programming
- Registrations by level (elementary/middle/high)
- Class sizes
-
Will the students have live streaming from the classroom?
Possibly at the high school, where it might make sense that the student(s) join the mainstream class. This will not be the norm, but may be an option for a few as it relates to advanced courses.
-
Can a student participate part of the day online and part in-person?
A Shakopee Online student would particpate in online schooling all day and would not participate in onsite learning.
-
Will you run the program in select grades or must all grades (1-12) have the appropriate number of students registered to run?
After reviewing registrations, the district may decide to offer the program only at certain levels (high school, middle school or elementary). Grade-specific decisions within a level would depend both on registration numbers and on our ability to ensure a quality program for that grade level.
-
Is there a cost to Shakopee Online?
There are no registration costs or fees to participate in Shakopee Online.
-
Can I switch out the program during the 2021/22 if I change my mind?
Registration for Shakopee Online is for the duration of the 2021-2022 school year. As the school year progresses, questions and concerns will be addressed on an individual basis.
-
Why isn’t Kindergarten being offered?
Kindergarten is a critical year of development that requires very focused supports. We believe the best way to provide these supports is for children to attend in-person learning, where they can move, explore and learn to socialize.
-
How will materials be distributed?
We will have a monthly materials distribution where student materials will be available for pick up at designated locations within the district.
-
My student received Special Education Services. Will she/he still receive these services?
Special education services for those students with an active IEP will be incorporated into programming considerations when reviewing interest.
-
My student is part of the English Learners program. Will he/she receive instruction?
Yes, English Learners will receive programming to support their identified needs.
-
How much time per day can I expect my student to be engaged in learning?
Students should expect to spend the school day engaged in learning, just as they would if they attended in-person learning. Please visit the elementary, middle or high school pages to view a sample schedule.
-
Which courses will be offered?
English, Social Studies, Science and Math courses will be offered to meet the required Minnesota State Standards. A limited selection of elective classes at the middle school and high school will be offered based on enrollment.
-
How will instruction be delivered?
All courses will have regular live instruction (synchronous) delivered virtually. Classes will also use a combination of self-paced (asynchronous) learning opportunities prepared by our licensed Shakopee teachers.
-
How will my student be graded?
Grading will follow the typical procedures and timelines and will be reported quarterly in Infinite Campus.
-
Will my High School student receive credits toward graduation?
Yes, all passing grades in High School courses will receive credits toward graduation.
-
Can my student take Accelerated Courses in Shakopee Online?
For high school students, all courses available including accelerated/advanced options are listed in the Shakopee Online Course catalog that can be found here. If you do not see the course offered, it will not be available.
For middle level students, we will offer advanced math courses (students may be in a course with older or high school students based on numbers). However, we will not offer Accelerated English or Accelerated Science.
For elementary students, we will offer High Potential math to qualifying 4th and 5th grade students. No other HP services will be available.
-
Will elementary students have specialists?
Specialist enrichment (art, media, physical education, music) may be limited or may not be available.
