About the Shakopee Alumni Association

The Shakopee Alumni Association, 501(c)(3) public charity managed by the community, operate as a voice for Shakopee alumni and friends and to focus on five key goals:
- Encourage a continuing relationship between alumni and the Shakopee School District
- Organize alumni activities and support class reunions
- Contribute human and financial resources to the Shakopee Public Schools
Each year the Shakopee Alumni Association, in partnership with Shakopee Public Schools, will sponsor an annual event for the Shakopee Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fames. Nominations for the Hall of Fame Class are also accepted each year May 15 - June 30th.

The Shakopee Alumni Association is incorporated with State of Minnesota and has been classified by the IRS as a Section 501(c)(3) public charity. Charitable contributions to SAA are now deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Athletic Hall of Fame Criteria for Inductees
A candidate for induction into the Shakopee Athletic Hall of Fame must satisfy the qualifications in one of the following categories:
- Athletic and Personal Achievement: A former Shakopee High School athlete who performed with excellence and lettered in a Varsity sport. Must be a graduate and out of school for at least ten (10) years. The inductee may be either living or deceased.
- Coaches: A nominee must have been a former or present coach who has distinguished himself/herself by demonstrating exceptional leadership, character, and athletic achievement during his/her tenure at Shakopee. The inductee may be either living or deceased.
- Special Award: A person who has been a loyal and devoted supporter of Shakopee Athletics.

Shakopee Distinguished Alumni Criteria for Inductees
Nominees are selected from graduates of Shakopee High School. Nominees not meeting the criteria as a graduate of Shakopee High School, but who have made a significant impact or contribution to Shakopee Public Schools may be recommended as a "Friend" of the Shakopee Alumni Association and are eligible for induction into the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. Nominees are first eligible for selection 10 calendar years following their graduation.
Selection is based on achievements which shall include a worthy record in more than one and exemplary achievement in at least one of the following:
- Job-related achievements
- Professional honors and awards, professional affiliations, publications, civic or community involvement
- Personal achievements/accomplishments
- Positive impact on the communities of Shakopee Public Schools
- Other appropriate qualifications which the committee believes merit consideration

Athletic Hall of Fame Election of Inductees
The Shakopee Alumni Association Selection Committee may select a maximum of 4 former athletes each year. The SAA Selection Committee may select a maximum of 2 former/present coaches per year and none if they so desire.
All nominees not selected in one of these three categories will remain on the nominee selection list for 2 years.

Shakopee Distinguished Alumni Election of Inductees
The Shakopee Alumni Association Selection Committee may select a maximum of 4 inductees each year. The Selection Committee may select a maximum of 1 "Friend" recipient per year or none if they so desire. All nominees not selected in one of these three categories will remain on the nominee selection list for 2 years.
