East Middle School Student Advances to State GeoBee

Landon Vaupel MARCH 5, 2019 -- Congratulations to Landon Vaupel, an 8th grade student at East Middle School, for advancing as a semifinalist in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee Minnesota State Competition. Vaupel will compete in the state GeoBee on March 29 at the University of Minnesota.

 

Vaupel is one of 100 students who qualified to compete. Winners at the state level receive a cash prize and represent their state in the National Championship in Washington D.C. in May.

 

Earlier this year, Vaupel was named the champion at East Middle School. School Champions take an online qualifying test for the state competition.

 

ABOUT THE GEOBEE

Developed by the National Geographic Society in 1988 to promote geographic knowledge among young people in the United States, the National Geographic GeoBee is an academic competition for public schools, private schools, and homeschools in the United States and its territories, as well as the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS). Students in grades 4-8 from nearly 10,000 schools participate annually for a chance to win college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic GeoBee Champion.
