Nine Middle School Students Selected for All-State Honor Choir
NOVEMBER 1, 2019 - The Shakopee school district is celebrating after learning nine students, from East and West middle schools, have been selected to participate in the ACDA All-State Honor Choir. Congratulations Cannon Miller, Bodie Hanninen, Noah Kauhane, Stellan Joyce, Jonas Gerold, Sarah Armstrong, Hailey Sauer, Hogan Vaupel, and Henry Hewitt.
"Several hundred middle schoolers submitted recorded auditions for the choir this year," said Gary Butler, West Middle School Choir Director. "I'm extremely proud of our students!"
On the recorded audition, male students have to sing “America” without accompaniment and a scale up and down; demonstrating their ability to keep every note correct without any external help. "This is not easy for most 7th/8th graders," added Butler.
There is a 7/8th Soprano/Alto choir and a 7/8th Tenor/Bass Choir. About 100 students are selected to participate in each choir.
The event will be held at Mahtomedi High School on Saturday, November 16, and conclude with a late afternoon concert at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.
