SHS Students Connect with Business Partners During Career Expo

EXPO NOVEMBER 6, 2019 -- For the second year, Shakopee High School hosted a Career Expo. This year, it was designed specifically for students. More than 80 businesses and organizations from throughout Shakopee and the local area participated in the expo that showcased future careers for students.

“An essential element of the Academies of Shakopee is exposing students to the outside world and challenging them to think about what their future could look like,” said Elizabeth Duehr, Academy Coach.

More than a thousand students attended the event during the school day. It gave them the opportunity to interact with business partners, learn more about future careers in each academy, and the ability to practice their professional skills. Prior to the expo, business partners from One Way Construction, Apple Autos, Scott County, Hometown Bank and Brekke, Clyborne and Ribbich LLC gave tips on how to prepare for the business expo and, over the course of two days, gave a presentation to all freshman students.

“Our teachers and staff, in partnership with our community, are always looking for new opportunities to give our students the tools they need to succeed beyond high school,” said Jenny Ames, Community Partnerships Manager. “We are so thankful to those business partners that participated in this event.”

The event was a great success and will be continued each year in the future.
