MAY 21, 2020 - District Financial Outlook
At Monday’s school board meeting, administration shared information about our impending financial challenges and possible solutions to these challenges. While being respectful of our community’s financial reality, the district is looking to find ways to maintain the quality programming and learning opportunities for students, while building a path to long-term financial stability, and being able to attract, retain and fairly compensate high-quality teachers. Options being considered as part of a solution include budget cuts combined with a possible operating levy request on the November 2020 ballot. While our school board is not meeting in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to continue to be as open and public as can be in sharing information regarding financial planning.

The School Board and administration will continue discussing the various options in June and July, with a decision about how to ensure the district’s long-term financial stability expected in July.
Calendar Change
The last day of school for students will be Wednesday, June 3. The school board approved the change at Monday’s meeting. This creates an additional work day on June 4 for teachers and other staff members to ‘wrap up’ the school year—complete grading, recording and communication of grading, sharing information for any students who may need to continue learning into the summer to complete expectations for quarter four, etc. As a reminder, there is no distance learning on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
District-wide meal pickup and delivery
District-wide meal pickup and delivery are available Monday-Friday for Shakopee children, except on Memorial Day. These food services will continue through at least June 30.
Returning Devices
As we approach the end of our regular school year and distance learning, we would like to share our plans for collecting devices. Click here for more information.
