As students progress through the Academy model, which is only one of two in the State, it is important to remember that our focus is on college and career readiness no matter what Academy a student may select or take courses in. Students are encouraged to explore various areas of interest while also having the opportunity to create a defined pathway in their educational journey.
Registration for the 2025-26 should be completed by the end of January (2025). We encourage all students and families to review the guide, in-depth, and ask questions so everyone is set up for success! Course requests also help determine staffing and scheduling for the upcoming school year. Specific teachers and class locations are announced when schedules are released mid-August. Counselors and other Shakopee High School staff will reach out to students and families if registration changes or questions arise.
Also, one of the best components of the Academies of Shakopee is the strong community partnerships that greatly support the student learning experience. From Valleyfair, Bayer, Entrust, Hometown Bank, Canterbury Park, Scott County and the City of Shakopee to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, St. Francis Regional Medical Center/TRIA and 80+ other businesses, the greater community is behind our Sabers and will help provide authentic, real-world learning experiences each school year!

Sixth-grade students transition from the elementary model of education; where they have a primary teacher most of the day, to the secondary model, where they generally have a different teacher for each class. Students’ schedules are mostly set, but there are opportunities to join band and/or choir or music production. Additionally, students can register for Accelerated Reading/Language Arts, and/or Pre-Algebra (single accelerated math) or Algebra 1 (double accelerated math).
Seventh and eighth-grade students can elect to enroll in Accelerated English and/or Accelerated Science. Students are offered more choices to explore through elective classes as they prepare to enter the Academies of Shakopee at Shakopee High School.
