Optional COVID-19 Reporting & Guidelines
-
Shakopee Public Schools takes the health and safety of its students and staff seriously. Layered COVID-19 mitigation strategies, including regular cleaning, reinforced hand washing and other hygiene practices, will continue to be used in buildings to reduce the risk of transmission. Our nurses and administration will continue to monitor classroom, building and district levels closely throughout the year.
As with other communicable diseases such as influenza, we encourage you to report contagious illnesses to the school nurse. Positive COVID-19 cases can be reported using our Optional Self-Reporting tool by clicking here.
Additional Health Information
- If an individual feels sick, stay home.
- Individuals who are fever-free for 24 hours and/or have improved symptoms and feel well enough to return to school may resume normal activities.
- Masks are not required but highly encouraged when returning to school following a positive COVID-19 case.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and MN Department of Health (MDH) have additional guidance and recommendations available on their websites. The parent/guardian or staff member is responsible for determining the best course of action, and when the individual is well enough to be in school. It is recommended that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 stay home and should isolate from others for at least five (5) days from the onset of COVID-19 symptoms or positive test, whichever came first. However, that decision is up to the parent/guardian.
