Family & Student Communication
-
Shakopee Public Schools engages with the greater school community in various ways. We invite all students, staff, families, business partners and community members to engage and connect frequently, and often!
The latest district events are listed on the homepage of the website and building specific events are listed on each school website (homepage). With over 80 languages spoken within the school community, communications are always available in various languages and questions can be supported directly by the district's cultural family liaison team.
Quick links to various platforms are listed on this page. An overview of communication from the district and each school are noted below.
Infinite Campus serves as the district's main communication platform for all school and emergency communication. All primary and secondary guardians noted in Infinite Campus will receive such communications. Email, Infinite Campus messaging, phone calls and text messages can be sent from Infinite Campus. Families must opt-in to receive general text messages. In case of an emergency or school closure, a phone call, text and email will be sent to all guardians (regardless of opt-in status on text messaging). Additional notifications would be posted to the website, social media and other news outlets, if appropriate.
The district's television network of record is WCCO. Any communication, including advertising requests, from outside parties to students, staff or families must follow district policy. Please contact Communications@shakopee.k12.mn.us with any questions. The electronic sign at East Middle School is reserved for school community events and managed by the Communications Department.
General District Communication
- E-newsletters are sent via email every month (1), sometimes twice a month, to all staff, students and families with students enrolled in the district.
- Individuals that sign up to receive this newsletter (i.e. subscribers) will also receive the e-newsletter.
- E-newsletters are also posted on social media and each school website.
- Four (4) mail-to-home newsletters are sent to all taxpayers, families and staff within the district.
- Generally, these newsletters are sent in early August, late October, January and spring (end of April).
- The latest news and happenings are also shared via news media such as WCCO and other news outlets. Ad hoc press releases and communications may also be sent throughout the year/summer. District social media accounts often include the latest news, as does the district website.
School Communication
- Every school building sends a monthly e-newsletter to families via Infinite Campus and Seesaw/Canvas in S'more, the district's official e-newsletter provider.
- Teachers and select building teams will also utilize Seesaw (grades E-5) or Canvas (grades 6-12) to share daily activities, photos, homework and other classroom/event related announcements.
- Both apps can be downloaded to a smartphone or accessed online; both also connect with parent/guardian emails.
- Additional communication methods such as signs, TV displays within the building, take-home student flyers, direct to home mailings and other items may be used to communicate with families.
- E-newsletters are sent via email every month (1), sometimes twice a month, to all staff, students and families with students enrolled in the district.
