Early Entrance to Kindergarten

  • Minnesota law states that children must be five years of age by September 1 of any given year in order to enter kindergarten. Shakopee Public Schools offers an early entrance option for children who have a birthday between September 1 and October 15 and reside within the school district at the time of application. Children who demonstrate superior intellectual ability and social/emotional development well-advanced for their age may be considered for early kindergarten entrance. On average, only one or two children are accepted per year for early entrance in the district.

Applications for the following school year are accepted from January through April each year and screening testing is done through June for fall enrollment. Fees may be involved if formal testing is needed.
